In the nineties Dekker initiated a series of large scale embroidery installations on the themes of waiting and absence, using repetitive motifs, akin to the technique of embroidery. From 2000 Dekker started to work on drawing, performances, photography and video: a series of performances on embroidery were staged and exhibited in Italy.

Miden participates in Kalamata Street Festival (Kalamata Railway Park, 28-31 July 2016) presenting 20 videoart works from 11 countries, in two screening programs. The first program, entitled VJ (curated by Margarita Stavraki) presents 13 videos of different aesthetic forms, that deal with the human entity and highlight scenes and objects of everyday life. The second program, under the title Fatal Error (curated by Gioula Papadopoulou) presents 7 digital videoart works based either on signal & image transformation or on 3d representations which create imaginary, artificial worlds, illustrated through the personal gaze and the aesthetics of each artist. The screenings will take place at Railway Park on Sunday, 31 of July (19:00-21:00h)
As stated in the title – which echoes a famous essay by Rosalind Krauss – Rethinking the Medium: the phantom of the drawing is not intended as a traditional exhibition on drawing, but on what we have defined as its phantom. The show focuses, indeed, on an idea of drawing in expanded field and draws inspiration from some works based on a sort of in-stallation (staging and stalled) of the sign.

Connie Dekker works in Italy since the late ’80s where she was invited to the ‘Casa degli Artisti’ in Milan, established by the artist Luciano Fabro since 1978. From here friendships started with artists of her generation such as Liliana Moro. Connie Dekker, worked in Italy for most of the 90s.
